Here comes the snow! We've got a couple check points before snow will set in, so we'll make some ground today but plan to take it pretty easy. Just like it doesn't make sense to speed to a red light, I'm in no rush to reach that wall of snow. I check on Chena first thing this morning and she's still too weak to run. We're doing fine without her, but I can't wait until she's healthy again, the poor thing.
Yesterday we had the troublemaker, Iggie, get loose from the sled! I had to stop and search for her, but luckily she didn't get too far. I wouldn't have left her out in the wilderness, so I'm so thankful we found her right away.
I know I'm close to McGrath, and Takotna isn't far beyond, so that's where we'll stop for the day. We can make it there before the storm comes in. After checking the dogs, I feed them and hook 'em up for a lazy day of racing.
+++++++++
Wake up, check dogs, secure Chena in sled, feed 3 cups of food and water dogs 1hr Push for 2 hrs Rest and feed dogs 2 cups and water 1hr Push for 1 hr Pace for 2 hrs Rest and feed dogs 2 cups and water 1hr Pace until reaching checkpoint: Takotna Stop and take mandatory 8hr rest, feed dogs 4 cups and water. Make camp for the remainder of the day.
Stats: Push - 3hrs Pace - 2hrs + amount of time to reach Takotna Rest - 11hrs + remainder of time left (8hr mandatory break at Takotna) Cups - 11

We're still working on making sure food rations are on par with the amount of energy used. But other than that nothing more bad happened yesterday. I start the off the day by checking on Jade, who is still sick. I leave her on the sled and set to checking the other dogs and feeding everyone. We're going to take our time going through the bit of rough terrain ahead.
Rest 1 hour. Feed dogs 2 cups of food each. Pace 2 hours. Rest 2 hours. Feed dogs 4 cups of food each. Pace 4 hours. Rest 2 hours. Feed dogs 6 cups of food each. Pace 4 hours. Rest 2 hours. Feed dogs 3 cups of food each. Pace 4 hours. Rest 3 hours. Feed dogs 5 cups of food each.
Pace Total: 14 hours Rest Total: 10 hours Total Fed: 20 cups

Another successful uneventful day! Unfortunately, we caught word of a blizzard coming up fast. I would really rather not get caught in that so I'm hoping to wait it out at my next checkpoint. Third day of the race and we had some pretty smooth sailing! A few teams passed us up but we are okay with that. To be honest, it's nice to not have to break trail for a bit so the dogs can take a little bit of a break in that area. We had a little snow, but other than that the weather and scenery were beautiful! On our last rest of the day I noticed Orca wasn't acting herself and seemed a bit sick. She must have caught a virus poor girl. I gave her some food with some medicine in it hoping it will help her feel better. She didn't mind one bit! She ate it all up right away. Today it looks like there's a big blizzard on it's way and some rough terrain. I think we'll take it easy and do our mandatory 8 hour rest today. Wake up & Feed 2 cups of food per dog & give water. Look over dogs and check on Orca. She still doesn't seem well enough to run with the others so I got her all tucked away on the sled. Get the rest of the dogs hooked up to the sled and we're off! 2 hours Pace 4 hours Stop and rest for 1 hour, feed 1 cup food per dog & give water Pace 4 hours Stop and rest for 1 hour, feed 1 cup food per dog & give water Pace 4 hours (Or until we reach a checkpoint. Can be more or less) Stop at Checkpoint and set up camp to take our 8 hour rest. Get dogs all unhooked, fed 2 cups each, watered, and settled down for the night. 8 hours Total hours ran: 0 Total hours paced: 12 Total hours rested: 12 Total cups fed: 6 Total Hours: 24

Sighing I start with tending the injuries of Wayne and Nanook to avoid infection and hopefully speed the healing process.
I want to alternate between
-Rest for an 1.5 hours, feeding/watering dogz 4 cups/dog -Push for 1 hour
Until I reach a check point, when I want to start 1 of my 8 hour rests.
(I'm doing the totals with the assumption that I didn't hit a check point in the time) Total Rest - 15 Paced -0 Push - 9
