I finally made the jump to adopt an American Akita to show at PKC. I visited the breeder, rafa , and was pleasantly surprised by the lovely options available. There was so many colors and variation in this breed! Toro caught my eye with his brindled blue fur. I realized my family room was quite a mess. This isn't good for a new puppy. There we go. He didn't seem scared or nervous when I let him out. He curiously explored his surroundings. Kind of a clumsy puppy though. Full of energy. All good signs for a newly adopted healthy puppy :) I noticed he was itching a lot, and used flea spray with lots of brushing. He seemed wary. He didn’t approach closely or quickly when I called him. I rewarded him for coming closer with many pets and he fell asleep. He is possessive of his toys and gets distracted easily during fetch. When he finally brought the ball to me, I gave me plenty of encouragement. I taught him how to sit and after a couple tries, he successfully performed the trick twice! What a smart puppy! He's clumsy, but he seems to pose readily enough. Perhaps he'll make a great show dog. He has no family history of showing and thus he will mark the first generation of my line of PKC American Akitas.

I have registered Toro at PKC! We did only basic training as a puppy, so he has a lot more to learn with posing, but we got a head pose I really love today: Let's see how he does :)
