thread name is probably temporary but for now it works

so the thing about starting up a natural raising crew with a DID system of 50 people is, there's going to be 50 petz minimum if everybody gets one. thankfully, we already have a hex file we made where there's customs for each of us, and they're cute as can be- the friendlies file! lots of other people have these guys as well thanks to a service thread on whiskerwick, and they're one of our favorite files to give out to people thanks to how easy they are to customize. we also have a few petz owned by us collectively, and some misc ones we've picked up along the way. introducing all 57 petz would be an absolute nightmare to do without a proper laptop (stuck on a backup currently), so we'll do so as we go.
today was kind of a rough day for us at first, but we managed to turn it around- as it turns out, coming back to DG and deciding to embark on this journey did a lot for my mood! i don't have any plans of showing my petz (though i'll leave it up to other people in system if they want to show theirs) so the majority of my play time is going to be spent observing and getting to know my petz, and spending time with other system members in the process!
we're going to let petz come out randomly for a bit while we introduce them, that way everybody gets a shot at showing off. tonight we started with my friendlie, nickels (cheating i know), a pet i've already been interacting with for some time now- but now, shrunken down to kitten form.
there she is! all friendlies have calico personalities, which is my personal favorite. it's weird seeing her in kitten form after i've played with her so much as an adult, but i'm really looking forward to seeing her get huge and poofy. it's kind of hard to tell when she's this small, but the patterned texture on her is actually a sweater pattern! extra cozy.
she's a goober!
the randomly chosen pet to come out of the carrying case belongs to spindle, and he was more than happy to try and play a game for the first time since splitting off. he named her gingersnap, and her patterned texture is a scaled pattern. spindle loves antiques and older aesthetics, so we hexed gingersnap to have a more subdued, natural palette.
like nickels, gingersnap is also a goober.
we had plans tonight to play some microscope with friends (very good tabletop game! check it out if you like worldbuilding), but i did manage to dress these two up before getting into the game itself. i feel like making custom clothes for our naturally raised crew would be really nice, and i want to give it a try sometime.
something dorky i used to do as a kid playing with tamagotchis and furbys was pretend that they were watching movies and playing games with me, and despite being almost 24 years old, we decided to give that a shot with our microscope game. surprisingly enough, it actually gave me a really comforting feeling, and i think having petz open while i do other things could be really nice! who knew
also my friend zen let me put them on the table with me thank you zen
gingersnap and nickels don't seem to care too much for each others company, but they don't dislike each other either. the biggest issue was gingersnap Consistently stealing food from under nickels' nose, even when she wasn't actually hungry! nickels didn't seem too bent out of shape about it, at least. she's a goober, but a chill goober
all in all, things went well for a first session. these two may not have hit it off as friends, but it was nice to sit down and spend time with spindle, just talking about things as we played with pixel cats.
i don't know how often we'll update this, but here's a start! please feel free to leave any comments/questions about the petz (or our system, that's cool too and i know it isn't a super well known experience), and we'll be back with more!
