I like the idea of trying to get more folks to try flyball by having a class for it! Our goal is to get your pet to flyball ready in a few sessions-- and at the end of the class all the trainees will have a flyball test against one another to see how they do!
This is a short class with one goal: flyball. The class will only last a week and give tips and techniques for flyball.
What is flyball? Flyball involves having your pet jump through a hoop without any toyz and then grabbing a toy and jumping back the other way through the hoop with a toy in his mouth. These trials could be timed and in teams. For more information check out:

Flyball requires two pictures:
1. Jump right - no toy
2. Jump left - with ball
To sign up for this class, simply pick a puppy/kitty (or maybe older pet) that you're not sure has ever seen a hoop (maybe?) or you're not sure how good they are at picking up toyz-- this is the pet to sign up!
One pet per session. If that pet completes all 6 days plus the test day, you can sign up for another pet (if time permits you to do so).
There are 7 days to this class, each day requires a post detailed below. While I'm using the term "day", you can complete this in consecutive days or over the course of the three weeks (posting whenever you have a free moment). As long as you wait minimum a day between posting/sessions to create the feeling of a realistic training schedule. This means you might finish all the tasks in the first six days-- that's okay. You are free to do the test whenever you complete the 6 days of training.
Class Ends on 6/29
To sign up, just post the day you are working on and relevant photos/information asked by that day's task.
Day
1. Post a photo of your pet, their name, and the pet's first interaction with the hoop and toy you wish to use for flyball (should be a ball). This will be you signing up for the course.
--
2. Practice jumping through any hoop. Pet and reward your pet for jumping through the hoop. Keep practicing-- do at least 3 to 5 sets of jumps.
--
3. Have your pet pick up a ball, any ball is valid. You can try petting him when he picks up the toy, then holding the hoop and trying to get them to jump through. Always reward with treats and pets after successful hoop jumps, grabbing toys, and jumping back again.
--
4. Complete a successful flyball trial-- take the two required photos. Reward only after they complete all the steps successfully and in the correct jump through the hoop. Right without a toy, left with the ball. Practice taking the photos (use Auto-save recommended).
--
5. Time yourself for 1 min and see how many the pet can complete. Post the number of jumps in one minute with each jump photographed. Another trial type is how long it takes the pet to complete a single flyball trial-- you may record that time here if you did that.
--
6. Try to beat your previous record. Keep trying until you do. If you just can't, then post how you did. If you're having trouble or your pet is distracted, be sure the pet is rested and fed. Especially important the day of the test.
Test Day:
Following the rules of flyball, take out a timer for 1 minute and see how many successful right jump, then left jump. Take photos of all the jumps. Record the number of successes. Always use the first result you get-- this is test day after all! Sometimes petz get nervous and can mess up and that's just realistic to how it is.
You must complete all previous tasks before you can post the Test Day. You are welcome to post the Test Day post at any time-- doesn't have to be the last day of class. Petz will receive Summer Olympics points for placing compared to other trainees (BIS, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HM).
Remember, the last day to take the test is 6/29!
After this course, your pet should be successful in flyball trials!
