I figured one of the easiest ways to get into the habit of opening Petz again every day after my disappearing for so long was to hop into the ongoing gameplay challenge! >w<
I've been trying to get back into the swing of things gamewise by picking up a random breeding project that kind of got derailed a couple of times, but it gave me this little boy!
For day one...
Meet Pittance!
(Who is very excited to come out today apparently??)
I decided on the name Pittance because he reminded me a lot of a pitbull with his lil scottie ears and (mostly) white fur. I wanted a name with "pit" in it, and Pittance had a nice ring to it. c:
He's a mix between Diversity's old Dali OW file, a mini scottie OW, and a single chihuahua. I can't quiiite tell which personality he ended up with since dog breeds aren't really my specialty, but I'll probably figure it out as I go along!
Because of his small genes, though, his adult size isn't much bigger than his puppy size. He's always gonna be on the small side!
While I was setting things up, the little pup decided it was nap time, I guess? But he wouldn't stop just... pacing in circles. He'd lay down, get settled, then resume the pacing.
There was a lot of pacing.
I thought maybe a pillow would help?? Maybe he didn't like the playpen floor?
... Aaaand it didn't work very well.
All he wanted to do was growl and bat at it. Pittance apparently does not appreciate the blue pillow.
Welp, if he wasn't tired...
I thought I'd try the tug-of-war toy with him on a whim, and it turned out that he took to it immediately!
An instant favorite!
Maybe a little too much of a favorite.
Pittance, please-
While I was going to type this out- meaning I missed it on the screen capture- he decided he loved the tug toy so much that he wanted to bury it.
RIP tug toy, 2021-2021.
Poor little guy was definitely tuckered out after playing and digging, though,
Pillows still fill him with RAGE, but at least he was too tired to fight it this time. Sleepy little bab.
Once he'd rested, it was food time!
Huzzah, food! He woke up hungry from his nap, so he should be eating for a while-
Pittance, no! Come back with that! You're still starving!
... Sigh...
Despite my best efforts, I could only get him to eat enough to fill himself around 40% by his sliders.
Once he was that full, all he wanted was to play fetch with the bottle.
"But Sappire," you say, "even though he's a puppy, you can try the other food!"
There was one minor problem with that.
He's scared of all the food.
All of it.
(Not pictured: the red bowl met the same fate. I tried.)
I... I don't think I've ever had a puppy or kitten that was actually too afraid of the food to eat it?? If I left it out he just cowered and whined until I took it away. The most I got him to do was chew on the blue bowl with scared eyes- not even eating! Just chewing on the bowl!
And by this point, every time the bottle came out he thought it was time to play fetch. He'd drink for half a second and then start bouncing around for me to throw it. He was only getting hungrier but just... would not eat??
I thought maybe I could get some of his playing out, so I decided to try the green frisbee.
This is not how the frisbee works, Pittance.
Unfortunately he wasn't particularly interested in the right way to play.
It was also around this point that I noticed he was snuffling around an awful lot. I wondered if it was related to his burying his tug toy earlier, but then I realized that the bottle was missing.
I brought out another one and went to work on my notes, then came back to it missing, too.
Someone is burying all the bottles.
I wonder who?
I briefly considered giving him some bones to bury to see if that would make him happy and maybe give him something better to play with, but uh
Turns out he's also afraid of bones.
Then I caught him just... digging a hole. He wasn't trying to bury anything new, so I thought maybe he was retrieving an old bottle, but he got bored halfway through and refused to dig any more. He just sat down and left it there??
It's not open enough for me to pull anything out of it, so it's just a mystery hole that's there forever I guess.
He started digging on a completely different part of the screen a few minutes later and... look who it is! Back from the dead!
Unfortunately, in their brief time apart, it seems Pittance forgot what the tug toy does and is now convinced it's for playing fetch with. He refused to play tug-of-war with it no matter what I did, so I ended up having to throw it around for him to chase.
The good news is that around this time he figured out the frisbee! He even caught it a few times- but I missed catching the picture. ;w;
In the end, he chased a lot of toys across the screen, buried way too many milk bottles, and tuckered his little self out again. I kept trying to get him to drink more from the bottles before putting him to bed, but nope! Now he refuses to get above 20% fullness.
He's... doing his best.
All-in-all though, it made for an exciting first day in the big world for the little pup!!
I'm hoping maybe when he ages a day or two he'll be more willing to at least try and eat more food though ajkhsfj
I'm definitely excited to keep up with this little event with him, too! And it turns out that getting gifs of him is almost more fun that still pcitures, even if it's a lot more work and I'm still getting the hang of it. >w<
Pittance and I are on this journey together~
