since damien is now fully grown, i've moved some other petz over to petz 3... including a new kitten i'm going to be raising!
memory was a PUGS purchase from Ratqueen. i had my eye on her for a few days, and when nobody else ended up taking her, i couldn't help myself! she's an egyptian mau mix, and i love her subtle stripes. my first cat on petz ever was actually an egyptian mau, and even though i know now they're pretty much the same as the russian blue besides a few minor personality trait edits, i've missed having one.
when we went into the back yard today, xe jumped right into the basket! i'm not sure i've ever seen a cat do that.
she also caught a mouse.
xe and damien didn't really seem to know what to think of each other.
they did nap together, though, and after going to the beach, she was cordial enough to bring him a fish bone.
of course, damien also needed to be brushed.
spork started crying again as soon as i brought him out today. cheer up, spork!
after he ate some food, he wanted to play fetch with the rest of it for a bit, and then started kicking it around.
i wanted to see what toys he'd get out on his own this time, but he kind of just started wandering around.
then he took a nap.
once he woke up, though, he got out the pop box and started dancing. he loves dancing!
when i showed him a grub today, he sprouted a hat with a propeller. i think this is one of dynaroo's special tricks, technically, but since the snorkie is based on the dynaroo, spork is a cousin breed and can do it, too.

memory and damien decided to try some of the new edible clover i made today. it seems to be tasty!
a lot of mice were interested as well, so they played with them.
when we went to the beach next, they found a new shell. they seemed concerned about it.
and damien wanted to be brushed.
memory played with a fishbone for a bit.
damien did some sunbathing.
memory still isn't very sure about how to sunbathe.
spork is looking bigger today!
he got a bit spooked when a grub came out suddenly.
after eating some of his favorite flavor of food, he used the heart emoticon! i think this is the first time i've seen him use that one.
he did some flying today!
after that, he wanted to dance for awhile. it's still his favorite!
we played with the gravitron today! he had a lot of fun spinning around under it, and he became very small.
then, we played with the atomic ball, and he became very big!
i put him back in and then took him back out so he would return to normal size.
after that, he decided it was bedtime. good night!

more beach time today! damien doesn't like the beach ball.
but he still loves the brush.
memory did some cloudgazing.
then xe brought the frisbee to damien. he has shown to be ambivalent about the frisbee in the past, but he seems endeared by this.
memory also found a hermit crab shell! she seemed a bit concerned about it.
back inside, memory got a drink from the faucet.
damien still likes to dance to the music box, but memory seems to prefer singing.
memory also met perry today! although, she seemed interested in tasting him...
spork was crying when he came out again today. it's going to be okay!
when i brought the flavorizer out to change his food flavor, he decided he wanted to play with it.
then, he decided to practice some kicking.
this was spork's trick for today. i'm not entirely sure what this is, but it's new!
i also caught him lighting up his antennae today!
after that, he decided to put his kicking practice to use by playing with the cursor by kicking it around. bolder than earlier!

The edible clover looks so awesome! It's such a neat idea. Memory is so cute, I love her attempts at sunbathing (sorry if I got the pronouns wrong, you seem to use both xe and she so I went with the one you use more often). And wow, I don't think I've had any cats spontaneously jump into the basket, but it makes so much sense. Damien being concerned about the shell is hilarious. I can't believe he's fully grown already! I love that oddballz can have light up bits and use emoticons! Why was Spork crying, though? I hope he's feeling better!

Why was Spork crying, though? :( I hope he's feeling better! thank you! i actually got the idea because meowlissa made an edible growable plant with a catnip effect, and we found out that growables actually have functionality for the plant going down a growth stage when enough of it is eaten, which was really interesting, so i thought making an edible plant for herbivorous petz and whatnot would be neat.
either pronoun set is fine for memory! i tend to have multiple pronoun sets for some of my petz and switch it up every so often since i like to do that for myself, haha
i can't either! it seems like it went really fast (and now he's babysitting a new kitten, lol)
when i was hexing the snorkie, i edited the base personality values in the breed, which are a little different than in petz, but i changed the "fear" baseline to be high, which seems to work similarly to low confidence in petz, and is even labelled in the comments to have an oshie-like effect (still called "Scaredy" at this point, since oddballz is kind of a transition game between dogz & catz and petz ii), which it does! however, oddballz also sometimes cry when distressed, so sometimes spork will come out feeling scared and then just have to cry about it. he usually feels better after a little while of playing, though!

unfortunately, memory was splashed by a wave shortly after the game turned on today.
she was cheered up by playing fetch with the pirate skull.
we also found out that memory will eat dog food today.
meanwhile, damien made the funniest oshie mid-eating face i've ever seen.
he seemed pretty content with himself when he was finished.
he then stared at the brush in the case until i got it out for him.
memory jumped over while he was being brushed, and they ended up both being brushed simultaneously.
they then found some treasure, but memory was too distracted by looking distinguished for the camera to notice it.
she wanted to play with it after, though.
memory also met hibiscus today.
it seemed like they were getting along well, but hibiscus started growling while they were greeting each other, without changing expressions, so now i'm not really sure.
they were kind of obsessed with bringing the pirate skull to each other, though.
spork did this trick again today...
then he got too scared of the grub to actually eat it.
he cheered up with some dancing.
then he had some fun playing on the robo pogo.
after that, he wanted to go to sleep.
i also have a new oddballz today... kind of!
this is anxiety (named by my partner), a scaredy breed oddballz. basically, it's a port of the orange shorthair, or scaredy in catz, to oddballz, with all the new zany behaviors that entails!
the atomic ball is his favorite toy! he likes to ride on it.
he also likes to bat it out of the case himself.
his favorite color/flavor is this apricot color.
and just like any oshie, he gets a little freaked out sometimes when the camera is used. i'm interested to see what he has in store for us!

Poor Memory, getting splashed by a wave! I like how they're playing with a skull xD And that Damien is way more interested in his brush. Hibiscus is really pretty, I don't know if you posted about them before. I'm really curious about whether Hibiscus and Memory will end up getting along or not. I had no idea cats actually preferred the "cat food" bowl! When I feed my pets I just spread all the bowls around the playpen and let them choose, and some of my cats eat from the "dog" bowls while some dogs eat from the "cat" bowls. Now I wonder if the different species are programmed to be more likely to enjoy certain flavours over others. I really enjoy your updates about Spork! Poor Spork, getting scared of the grub <3 Anxiety looks great, what an awesome "alien" kitty! I had no idea pets could be ported into oddballz. Whatever the apricot thing is, it does look tasty. You and meowlissa always figure out some really cool stuff for the game I've downloaded the clover and can't wait to plant it and see the effect, because that's really awesome. It also means it grows back after some time, right? I'm glad I'm not getting any pronouns wrong ahaha. I know they're petz and not humans but I wouldn't want to mess that up. It did go really fast! How does time even work any more? And yes! It's even more impressive that now he's the one babysitting a kitten instead of being the kitten. That's so awesome about odd ball personalities, and how you can customise them so much. I think I'll finally try oddballz this weekend. I'm relieved that Spork is just that way and that he does feel better eventually. Poor Spork xD

i posted about hibiscus here while i was raising her, i believe. don't remember what page that was, though, haha.
i've noticed that catz usually won't eat from the dog food bowl unless they have relatively high dogginess (memory has 50!), although there are some exceptions in the form of extremely picky catz who will only eat one type of flavor, since the flavor they like seems to be picked at random and so will sometimes end up being the dog food (i have a sneasel who will ONLY eat from the silver dog food bowl or the beef-flavored treats, lol)
it's actually relatively easy to port catz lnz to oddballz (or vice-versa) because they use the same structure, besides the "move" section being split into three different parts in oddballz since it's pre-petz ii, but that's easy enough to translate. it'd probably be slightly harder to port dogz, although there's already some dogs in the game to work with (102, and i think walret and dynaroo can become a dog when hit with the transformer ray), so those would probably be a good place to start (along with things like vickie's catz-based "dogz" breeds)! i'd say the only thing that makes it difficult to port to oddballz is that there's almost no tools for it (i did try a couple of the existing 16-bit resource editors, but none of them were usable for this in the same way reshacker is for petz editing, and reshacker only supports 32-bit (and maybe 64-bit?) executables), so you pretty much have to go in with a hex editor and overwrite large sections, and it's very time-consuming.
yep, the plant will grow back over time, and then it will reduce in size when petz eat from it. i think it's really interesting that that functionality even exists, since it makes me wonder if something was planned with it that never ended up being utilized!
it was really interesting going through the oddballz LNZ, there's SO much that's customizable just in the LNZ section, since sections like the "YALP" section didn't exist yet, and most of the behavior and preferences is controlled entirely by the breed file. there's an entire section for the personality baselines, sections for favorite toy and flavor, even things like what times they like to sleep at and what kind of motion they use to move around! it's really neat, and i feel like if there were more tools available to make it easier we'd probably have a lot of really interesting hexing around for it, haha

My memory is really bad and I'm sorry! Hibiscus looked familiar but I thought I was mixing her up with someone else's pets. It's weird that it doesn't happen more often for pets to pick the "wrong" species bowl since flavours are random! I wonder if dogs liking cat food is also related to... something? (Like cats with high dogginess.) I'll definitely start keeping an eye out to see what patterns I've noticed when they're eating. It's a real shame oddballz sound comparatively harder to hex, because that system and degree of customisation sounds incredible. Do you know of any hexing resources/tutorials for oddballs? I'd love to give it a shot but I'm bad at hex editing stuff. Now I really wish they'd have a community like Petz or Babyz do, it sounds really underrated. I'm even more impressed with your oddballz now, after knowing all the work and attention to detail that went into them! About the plant, maybe they meant them to be similar to the catnip plant? That one also gets smaller when pets eat them, though I don't remember if it grows back or not. I guess it wouldn't make sense for most in-game plants (like the flowers) to be edible, and I've always wondered why the only edible vegetable seem to be the carrots, considering bunnies are one of the species were can technically get. You're right, I wonder what they wanted to do with that functionality, if anything, because it sounds really interesting and would have been an awesome detail!

yeah, i think there must be some code in place that keeps catz from commonly liking dog food unless they have dogginess, but the high-finickiness single random flavor preference must override that or something. i don't play with dogz enough to know if there's any similar trait in them, but it's possible!
carolyn has a few tutorials (and the easy-edit kits, which allow you to use external LNZ instead of having to hex-edit it, although i like to use them to just edit the LNZ externally and then use a hex editor to overwrite the LNZ inside the file with that using a hex editor so i can package the eggs by themselves without the modified files being needed to play with them, plus i like to edit some of the other internal stuff that isn't editable using those like the info page and such), and there's some documentation on phantasmagoria. there's also the "egg scrambler" tool around, but it only really allows you to recolor/resize ballz and such and doesn't really allow for more advanced editing of the sections, so i didn't really bother with it much.
and yeah, i think that was something we talked about, and i think it seems likely, since the eating behavior for edible plants seems to be the same as the catnip (usually just taking a few bites and then stopping, multiple petz can eat it at once, etc.) but i am really curious if there was something in the works for potential herbivorous wildz dlc, given we were apparently also supposed to get more of them (at very least ferrets were planned), but they never ended up going through with it. makes me think about what could have been!
-
today, damien found a doubloon!
he took the doubloon to the case and knocked out the brush, expecting to be brushed as payment, but apparently memory is now old enough to wrestle, because she decided to tackle him.
damien was brushed after, though.
memory also wanted to play fetch with the doubloon.
now that memory is old enough, i've also determined that xe does really get along with hibiscus! i'm not really sure what happened with their first interaction.
memory has also figured out sunbathing.
today, anxiety decided to fly around a bit.
he also did the blimp trick today!
he didn't want to eat the grub, though. instead, he stood up, picked it up, and threw it on the ground.
suddenly, he ran and splat into the screen, then slid down it! i'm not sure what he meant to accomplish.
when the transformer was used on him, he became a chicken. there's probably some kind of joke here.
he decided this was a good form for eating his food.
after this, he played with the robo pogo.
after a while of having it out, though, it started to slow down, and then the spring retracted. he still tried to get back on and ride it, though.
he liked it so much that when i put it away, he threw a tantrum, flailing around on his back and yelling!
he calmed down after playing with his ball.
then, he wanted to take a nap...
but he suddenly became a blimp again and started floating away, apparently out of control, because he sounded distressed.
after he was rescued by petting and deflating him, he went to sleep.
according to his info page, spork is now a young adult! he seemed a little nervous about that.
i brought out the robo pogo for him, but he picked it up and brought it to me instead of riding it.
he eventually decided to play with it, though.
he also did some more flying!
he took a nap for a bit.
i caught him sleepwalking!
when he woke up, he got a bit spooked.
then, he wanted to do some more dancing.
the toy that pops out of the pop box startled him today!
apparently not enough to scare him, though, because he just wanted to play with the pop box after that.
