Howdy! I mentioned in my intro post that I'm naturally raising a small P3 crew of 1st gen petz, and it's time to introduce them! This thread as a whole will just be full of cute lil updates as I raise these babies, and you're free to comment and so on if you want (it makes it more rewarding to post here, haha), but for now we'll just start with introducing the petz themselves.
Here they are all together! As you can see, I broke my 'only one of each breed' rule with the two pugs right off the bat- we'll get to that. My petz are separated into pairs; I adopt two from the AC at once, so that I can be sure each pet will have a friend when they arrive. I usually have them out in their adoption pairs for the first couple of days while I'm really getting to know them, and from there I've started introducing them to the others. The really fun thing about P3 is that it's easier to take care of petz without PetzA - the food bowls don't bounce! I still use it to check sliders, but not to change them.
Weirdly, only one of these petz is from a breed I actually intended to adopt, and that's the Mutt. The others are all breeds I was either indifferent towards or actively avoiding adopting, but that's who came bounding out of the Adoption Centre doors, and here we are. There's every chance I'll adopt some of them out in the future if I don't 'click' with them, but I'm hoping it won't come to that! I also still want to adopt a Russian Blue and maybe a Chinchilla Persian to even out the numbers (I have four dogz but only two catz), but I'm going to wait a good while before that.
Without further ado...
CHEESEBURGER THE PUG & POG THE PUG
First up is Cheeseburger and Pog! Cheeseburger is the cream one, Pog is the black one. I had absolutely no intention of adopting a pair of pugs to start off my p3 crew - I only adopted these two to test their personalities since they're from a fixed, varied personality breedfile. But they immediately loved each other and won me over just by being such good friends, and I had no choice but to keep them. I have a somewhat weird history with pugs; I never really liked them as a kid and I still associate them with someone from my past that I don't like to think about, as they were her favourite breed both in Petz and IRL. So it's pretty remarkable to me that these two have quickly become so special to me, and that I even kept them at all.
They were also adopted in P4, and had some strange glitches when I put them in P3... Their barks were a bit strange, and when they played the 'toss' game together they'd kind of uh, teleport? Here's a picture of them tossing the cheeseburger to each other mid-glitch.
Yeah, I don't know either. I managed to fix them by putting them in P5 then converting them back, though I did heavily consider keeping their original glitchy selves in because they were so interesting. I still have those files saved just in case... But in the end I went with the converted files because they feel 'healthier' to me, haha.
As for their names- Cheeseburger was just off the top of my head because he liked the squeaky cheeseburger toy so much, and because there's a companion animal in Far Cry 5 called Cheeseburger that I like xD Something fun about him is that he has 100 Naughtiness - I've yet to really see that come into play yet, but none of my other petz have that, so I'm excited to see how he behaves. He's been nothing but lovely to Pog so far though, so at least he isn't mean as far as I can tell. He also LOVES squeaky toys and plays fetch with anything white, so I wonder if that's his favourite colour? I haven't known him long enough to really tell yet.
Pog was named just... off the top of my head really. I wanted something short and silly, and 'Poggers' came to mind, so here we are. Pog the Pug! I have been heavily considering renaming her to something food-themed to match the overall theme I seem to have going, but I've yet to find anything that really fits her. Milkshake is a strong contender though since it goes with Cheeseburger so well, but I'd love to hear other ideas. Somehow I feel like I know Pog a little less well than Cheeseburger, though I'm not sure why! She likes sitting by the fireplace when it's turned on, and likes the squeaky cheeseburger too. Interestingly, she has 62 insanity - I'm not sure how that really affects her yet, but none of my other petz have that. She does seem a little moodier than Cheeseburger in that sometimes when I bring her out she does a quick, short 'angry' little bark, then immediately is fine... She also doesn't like to be picked up and will get annoyed and huffy for a few seconds after I put her back down. She's also scared of water, where Cheeseburger isn't. I'll be interested to see how she gets along with the Catz...
Both of the pugs were neutered/spayed the day I got them, since I decided I definitely don't want them to breed. I'll probably keep that same rule for my other petz, though I haven't spayed/neutered any of the rest yet- I sort of want to focus on friendships in my crew without any romance, haha.
Now for the second pair!
PEANUT BUTTER THE SCOTTISH FOLD & SWEET TOOTH THE PERSIAN
Oh, this pair of sweethearts. They're both absolutely lovely. I don't even remember how I adopted them exactly - from the AC obviously, but I think they might have just randomly come out of the doors one after the other and gotten along really well? I think that's what won me over with them. I've always liked the Scottish Folds but hadn't really intended to adopt any, same with Persians since I couldn't see myself bonding with the typical Persian personality.
As it turns out though, I love both of these kids to bits. Peanut Butter (Peanut for short) is surprisingly dog-like! She has high Dogginess, so she plays Fetch but doesn't do tricks. It's really cute to watch her bring things like the bone to me randomly and wait for me to throw it though, she's so sweet and agreeable it melts my heart. She's also a surprisingly good mouser - I think one of the first things she did when I brought her home was catch one of the mice in the livingroom. She doesn't like cheese, but does like to eat out of the red food bowl.
Here she is taking a nap with Sweet Tooth.
I'm still debating changing Sweet Tooth's name to something more directly food-related, so if you have any ideas for that, let me know! I said before that I couldn't see myself bonding with a Persian - well, Sweet Tooth actually ISN'T a typical Persian. Like, not at ALL. He's not all that sleepy- he kneads the floor and likes hopping onto pillows for a good nap (I didn't even know petz COULD hop onto pillows without you putting them on them first then moving it so they'll jump to it! P4 is so much buggier than I ever realised now that I've played P3), but overall he's really very playful and active. He's always jumping onto ledges and throwing/dropping toyz off of or onto them, which is funny- sometimes I'll tab back into the game after a break and everything is just sitting on a shelf because of him.
Along with being the first pet I've seen hop onto a pillow of their own accord, he's also the first to drink from a water bottle without being starving!
I genuinely had no idea that could even happen. For over a DECADE I've thought that petz had to be starving before they'd ever drink water, because it just wouldn't happen in my other games. It's funny though, because while Sweet Tooth will happily slurp down water, he's SO fussy with other food. Like, it's unreal. He had to be STARVING before I could finally get him to eat some leftovers for the first time. Everything else--every single food bowl--he'd sniff and turn his nose up at it. He's so shockingly fussy about food for a Persian, it threw me so off-guard! He doesn't seem to like treats or cheese or anything either, just turns his nose up at them too, it's so strange. I've NEVER had a pet quite like him. I thought he might warm up to food after he tried it for the first time, since he still has to be nearly starving to eat leftovers, the only thing he's eaten so far. Thankfully he does drink milk, so I can always feed him that if need be!
Here he is finally eating some leftovers.
Like Cheeseburger, he seems to really like white toyz - the fishbone is among his favourites, though the bone comes a close second. Honestly though that might just be because I have them out so often haha, I need to do more vigorous toy-testing with them all.
WAFFLE & PANCAKE
Yeah, I... didn't have any good pictures of them together on hand xD These two don't have names yet, so I'll happily take suggestions! They have to be food-related, of course, but that's the only rule. I think I got these two because they got along so well, like PB and ST.
I don't know them very well yet, honestly! They both have really low independence and they always howl for my attention (they're howling as I write this!), which is very sweet - it makes them feel like rescue dogs in a way. The mutt gets along with Sweet Tooth, but the dalmatian really doesn't - Sweet Tooth just starts GROWLING when he sees him, which is surprising xD The dali just growls back though, which I feel better about than if he was scared and running away.
The two of them like playing 'toss' with each other, and I've started trying to train them both; the mutt has much higher intelligence than my poor stupid Dali, so it's easy to guess which one is easier to train haha. I don't mind though! The challenge is rewarding.
The mutt really likes the plush dog and will carry it around, so sometimes I'll just take it with me to other rooms while I have him out. He'll also nudge the milk bottle until I feed him with it, which I didn't know was a thing either! The dali likes the star ball, but they're playing tug-o-war with it just now and the mutt won, so... xD
I really need to think of names for these two, so if you have suggestions please do list them!
