The Maine Coon grab bag experience
Sorry for the double post, but I just had the most fun Petz experience in a while and a few new kitties to show off
I won a grab bag of Maine Coons at Amanda’s Fall Festival booth.
Grab bags are new to me, hence, exciting, and coonies aren’t a breed I have a lot of experience with. So naturally, I added the five kitties into my game right away and was looking forward to see what I got.
I went in mostly blind, but in the Festival booth thread, a picture of one of them was shown. They were cute and orange and I really wanted to meet them, but first in the list was this guy:
Cute, but not really my cup of tea. The colors aren't my favorites. He greeted me with the grumpiest, roughest, ally-cattiest ‘meow’ I had ever heard and his facial expressions were rather angry – I figured that he would probably not become part of my crew.
Next up, this pumpkin:
Pumpkin will be her name. She is the largest of the bunch and also the only girl, and while probably not a cat I would have gone out of my way to adopt, I was quite charmed from the moment I met her. Look at her little boots!
Cat number 3 didn’t seem too exciting to me.
Kind of standard, right? Definitely the most boring of them all.
So I quickly moved on to the fourth one:
That’s the one I saw the image of – total cutie!
At that point, this one and the pumpkin were the likeliest candidates for sticking around.
The last cat also seemed interesting:
He came through the pet flap painted, revealing that he has hidden spots. He, too, has an Ally Cat-like demeanor and initially, I found him much more appealing than the first spotted grump from the bunch.
Curious to see them interact, I took them outside into yard. I hadn’t used this playscene before, so there was some stuff lying around that I put into the carrier. In the process, I accidently showered some of the catz with a watering can and the one that I had deemed to be the least interesting had a full-on Chinchilla Persian freakout, including curling up into a ball!
I felt super bad and suddenly very attached (I had been contemplating adopting a Chinchilla Persian from the AC). I mean, just look at this little baby:
That's not boring, it's lovely!
Still, none of these catz really felt like they were mine, so the experience of playing with them was a little surreal at first.
And then - of course! - the fighting broke loose. At this point, I’m always expecting fights, but catz can be so vicious when they’re going at each other, I will probably never not get startled when that happens.
The two spotted ones clearly detest each other. I broke them up a few times, but they just wouldn’t stop. Since it seemed like the one with the hidden spots was the main aggressor, I put him away and suddenly – things were peaceful.
So peaceful.
Obviously I don’t know of any preestablished relationships between these cat, but it was weird to see four petz seemingly getting along well. Weird and also very, very enjoyable.
I noticed a bit of flirting happening between Pumpkin and the spotted grump, but I figured that since I would only play with them for five minutes tops, we would be fine.
Well, turns out Pumpkin and the spotted one were extra fine:
Like, seriously? That was three minutes of playing in the yard. I laughed out loud when it happened.
So I’m expecting my first kitten in this game! Yay, I guess ….?
Initially, I expected to keep one, maybe two of the catz from the grab bag, but now I’m absolutely in love with these four babies! Even though I’m feeling like I might get to the point of having too many catz, I’m definitely not going to part with them.
Only the fifth one I’m not sure about, perhaps I’ll see if he gets along with any of my other petz before making a final decision.
