Lesson #1- Sit
Homework Assignment #1 is to teach your dog to sit. Get out a treat and wiggle it below your dog's feet. Since your puppy is new to learning, it will start trying different things in order to find out what you want. Keep wiggling it until your puppy sits. Once your puppy sits, drop the treat! Pet your puppy and tell them good girl/boy! Now do it again 2-3 more times to be sure they understand wiggling that treat above their head = sit. Now you should celebrate and play a short game of fetch with your puppy or another game they like! This makes training fun! Be sure to note down what treat you used to get them to sit for future reference. A good place to note this down would be in your petz profile. This will also help others if your pet ever has to stay with somebody else. Good luck! You have all of today to get your homework in.

Dog's Name: Groovy Homework Assignment #: 1 (Sit) 3-5 Pictures of dog in training: Picture of completed task: Notes: Groovy did very well and learned the sit rather quickly. She tried laying down a few times first, but then tried the sit. Good girl! We played her favorite game of tug as a reward. Dog's Name: Duke Homework Assignment #: 1 (Sit) 3-5 Pictures of dog in training: Picture of completed task: Notes: Duke has already been trained in Obedience and even has titles in Obedience, but I felt he was in need of a Re-fresher course. Plus he's never earned a Basic Obedience class certificate so I figured I should get him one Duke did very well and actually remembered what he was supposed to to perfectly What a good boy!

Very good! Sorry I was gone all weekend, so here's the next one:
Lesson #2- Down
Homework Assignment #2 is to teach your dog to down. This should be the alert down, not the relaxed down. Get a different treat than you used yesterday to teach sit. You don't want your puppy getting confused! Wiggle it below your puppy and wait for it to do a down. Drop the treat and pet your puppy! Repeat this 2-3 times to be sure they understand what you want. Now play a fun game with your pet that they like and note down what treat you used to teach them down! Good luck! You have all of today to get your homework in!

Sorry for getting behind guys! Here are the rest of the assignments! Get them in! Lesson #3- Come Homework Assignment #3 is to teach your dog to come to you when you call! Your dog should learn to come to you no matter what! For this, get some treats handy, but leave them in the box. Now move your hand away from your puppy and whistle. Your puppy should come running over to you. If he or she does, give lots of petting and a treat! You can also use a toy and play a short game with them if you want. Continue moving your hand away from your puppy and calling them. Keep making it harder by adding in distractions like other toys, moving toys, and calling them while they are chasing a toy. Once they are able to come and not having those distractions bothering them, bring out another pet and let them play for a moment. Now try calling your pet while they are playing. Be sure to give lots of praise and rewards when they do! You should now have a puppy that will come no matter what! If your puppy doesn't come, pick them up then set them down and try again. Lesson #4- Heel Homework Assignment #4 is to teach your puppy to heel / follow you around. To teach this, have a box of treats ready and maybe a toy near by. Now pet your puppy just a little, now go just in front of them and call your puppy. Now try moving your hand slowly in front of your puppy. Your puppy should follow. If they do, lots of praise (Petting, treats, and a short game). If they don't follow, simply repeat and try again. If they continue not following you, pet them a little again then try again. Keep practicing this until you can have them follow you at a slow pace clear across the screen. You don't want them running, but walking or 'trotting'. Don't forget to make this fun for your puppy! Lesson #5- House Training Homework Assignment #5 is to teach your puppy where to potty. Take your puppy outside and wait for them to 'go' (to get a picture of them 'going' pet them until they lower their end down low to the ground). When they do, lots of praise, petting, treats, and game they like. For extra pictures on this one, you can take of them walking around or sniffing the ground . Lesson #6- Crate Training This assignment is to get your pet comfortable with being confined. Simply take out a box or basket and place your puppy inside. Work with them on this till they are calm while inside. You can place them in it, then take them back out and pet them and give them a treat or play a game, then repeat. For the finished picture I'd like them looking calm in their 'crate'. Lesson #7- Accepting of Grooming & Handling For this lesson, we need to be sure you puppy/dog will accept being groomed and handled. First start with petting, then try to 'pick up' each of the paws. (I want pics of the reactions with the paws please) For this simply click on the paws as though you are petting them. Next click on the mouth as though to check the teet, do this again with the ears and the tail. (again I want pics of the reactions) Next pick up your dog and take pic/s of the reaction of being picked up. Now take out a brush and start brushing your dog, again pics of your dog being brushed and reactions. If you have nail clippers, try clipping your dog's nails. For this assignment, there is no finished pictures, and you will most likely have more than 3-5 pics of dog in training. Please post them all up Lesson #8- Show Training For this, you are going to need them to have a good heel. You will NOT be teaching them this by picking them up and dropping them so they are aligned. You will need to have them follow your hand and try an get them aligned by you being good with how you position them by getting them to follow you and move just right. This will take a little longer, and will be harder, but it is much more rewarding! Plus, your petz actually learn better. Right now we are looking for your puppy's show potential. Though we like seeing natural alignment, we are mostly just looking for a puppy's ability to strike a pose. This process is just like Free stacking a dog in real life. So practice at it and you will see they are actually quite good at aligning themselves!
