Scarlett's POV
The sun crept over the trees, birds cawing quietly. The faint jingle of keys made my large ears stand up on my head, like two large radars. I heard my sister's even breaths nearby, and the amazing scent of bacon wafted to my nose.
"Oh, crap!" My owner softly cursed, and I heard the clatter of a few pans. I jumped to my feet, and shook my fur.
Courtney poked her head in the living room, and frowned. "Sorry pretty girl! Didn't mean to wake you!" She cooed, and darted back into the kitchen.
"Psst."
My radar-ears were up again.
"Psst!" It was coming from a nearby window, which was cracked open. I jumped onto the couch, and poked my muzzle out the window.
"Oh, hey, Jeb!" I said, wagging my tail at the sight of my friend, Jebediah, the llama. My owner, Courtney, owned a bunch of various animals. Including dogs, llamas, and anteaters.
"Shh, you'll wake my mother!" Jeb said, nodding his head in the direction of his mother.
I couldn't help but smile at his crazy mother, and sighed.
"Well, I gotta go. I'll be back when Courtney's gone." I said, thinking of my owner's job--she works at a shelter, and she's gone almost all day.
"Aw, fine! You better hope she leaves soon, or I'll eat your Tulips!" He said, with a laugh. He was referring to my pretty Tulips I planted in the yard.
"You wouldn't!" I shouted, a large smile plastered on my face. He shrugged, and mouthed the word, 'Maybe'.
"Scarlet, what on earth are you doing?!" Rose asked, yawning. I jumped off the couch, and rolled my eyes at her.
"I was talking with--"
I was cutoff by Courtney, who came in and set bowls down in front of us. "Eat up!" She said, and quickly patted us. "Mama's gotta head to work now, be good girls!" She called, grabbing her coat and purse. The door slammed shut, and we were alone.
"Finally!" I said, taking a bite of food. Rose looked at me, and laughed.
"You're seriously eating this?" Rose asked, nudging her bowl away. I frowned, realizing I never knew what Rose did while Courtney was away. I just hung around Jeb and Archie.
"Uh, yeah?"
"Well, come with me if you want to see what Mama," She paused, and did a little shimmy, "eats!" I stared at her, frowning.
"Just great. What, do you eat leftover chicken that you raid from the fridge?" I asked sarcastically.
"Something better than leftovers! Come on!"
I grudgingly followed my bratty, snobby sister outside. She headed down the road, and I stared at her.
"Where are you going?!" I shouted, watching her image slowly disappear down the road.
"TO GET FOOD!" She shouted back, and I ran after her. My claws were clicking against the sidewalk, as I tried to catch up with my sister.
"Where *pant* are you *pant* going?" I asked, breathing heavily.
"Here!" She shouted, a triumphant grin dancing on Rose's lips. I looked ahead, and saw Old Smitty Jenkins' farm.
The cranky old man.
Who hated all animals.
Including his animals on the farm.
Oh boy.
