Oct. 27th 2007- Her first Day!
Sheila came to stay with me today! I renamed her to Sheila, she didn't have a name before. I am fostering her until she can find a home.
Poor girl, a quick look at her brainslider, says she is at 20% Neglect, 57% sickness, and 0 percent fat . We'll deffinately have to work on all of that! Her neglect will be the hardest to over come.
She is a very polite girlie though! I took her to the kitchen to get a bit to eat and she sat right down for me to put the food bowl down for her. She dug right in!
She didn't eat much, for she isn't a big dog lol. After eating, I gave her a piece of the Spooky Cake I've made for Halloween.
I took Sheila out to the Backyard to have a look around. She was unsure of a lot of things, it showed in her behaviour, tucking her tail and whining. A butterfly flew in, and she spent her time chasing and pouncing upon it. lol, it seems she loves to chase butterflies.
I picked up the watering can and held it over her to see if she liked the water. Turns out she Loves it!
Sheila seems to really like the Garden. She loves to lay or sit in it to see the flowers.
After only a little bit of playing with her, her sickness is gone . I picked up the stick and set it down. At first she was unsure but then she went right to playing with it. She is a very playful girl.
Since Sheila is a little on the skinny side I decided to go work on some tricks with her, where she can earn lots of treats. I started out with the milk bones and rewarding her for trying new things. In the end, she ended up learning how to play dead. It's a funny trick! I don't think I've ever had a dog do it before and if so I didn't notice what they were doing.
She is a quick learner! I next brought out the chicken treats. She first tried the front screen trick, then the wave, then the sit. I was looking for the sit .
Obedience & Tricks:
Sit: Chicken treat below her
Down: Steak below her
Heel: Click in front and move hand forward
Come: Whistle
Play Dead: Milk Bones below her
After she learned the sit, I brought out the steak treats to teach her the down. I figured she'd need to know her obedience if she were to compete in obedience shows. She is doing extremely well and her weight is now up to 61%.
And her Play dead trick:
She was tired after all that training, so we went into the family room to rest. She took a quick cat nap. I turned on the music for her to see if she liked it. She seems to . She is now also coming up to me and nudging me for petting. So she is coming out of her shell well!
After Sheila had time to settle in and feel at home, I decided to Introduce her & Duke.
I have all info & pics ready to put up for when they met, but my computer is being very slow today so that might have to wait. till later or another day.
