Friends, meet Shiplap. This little guy and I are about to embark on some fantastic adventures together. Just the other day I was abruptly inspired to create new environments for my petz. We’ve visited many players’ custom scenes over the years, but making our own? That’s something I’ve never done before, not once in my two decades of owning the game! This is because I’m not an artist. But I am a compulsive screenshotist -- and I realized there are so many beautiful worlds I could be sharing with my petz this way! So, I immediately set off to charter a sloop. (Screenshots courtesy of Sea of Thieves~) Now, truth be told, I did have other petz in mind when I was imagining a journey to sea. But Shiplap appeared while I was fixing things up on the deck, and… well, just look at him. He was meant for this boat. This boat is now his. We also decided quite spontaneously to capture our memories entirely with instant cameras. I took this shot of Shiplap on the bow for fun and then everyone had that same idea all at once. No do-overs, no fancy sizes… everything will have to fit in these tiny little rectangles of film. We’re all really stoked about this concept! It’s so nostalgic and simple and cozy.
These pictures (I think they’re called “snaps” these days – is that true?) were all taken very early this morning as we assembled our crew and began settling in. Allow me to go through a few brief introductions! SHIPLAP Before now, I haven’t had much experience with Catz. I’m not the sort who can tell the OG breeds apart by their faces, or who knows which personalities are which, or who even looks through catz adoption listings very much. So, all things considered, it shouldn’t have caught my attention when zan put up a listing for some mau-trait velveteens on Whiskerwick last July. But for some reason it did, and then Shiplap stole my heart faster than any other Catz cat I’ve ever seen. I absolutely adore him. His big interests right now are food -- he stops to do little happy dances while he eats -- and seeing if he can toss toys overboard.
UTMOST Utmost was actually my very first Catz adoption after I bought the game in 2020! He came from Arie on the RKC forum, and if what I’m inferring from my search results is correct, he was a PUGS listing who never found a match. Hard for me to comprehend, as I was immediately taken by his sweet quirky looks and English-major-y name. But obviously I’m glad it worked out this way! For a while I was bringing out the entirety of my small cat crew together to see who would get attached to whom. While Utmost was well liked by almost everyone, he and a tiny kitten named Laura were particularly fond of each other. Then Shiplap came around, and the three of them became a little unit. Utmost’s current hobbies include wrestling, dropping items off ledges, and shaking his butt at the camera.
LAURA And here’s Laura, the last of our jolly crew. She was adopted from smonikkims, also on RKC, as part of a “will they or won’t they stay tiny?” collection of kittens. As you can see, Laura stayed tiny. She’s an adult here. And pregnant!! That’s right. Laura decided to embark on two life-changing events instead of just one: exploring the ocean, and starting a family. I find this incredibly sweet, and also very emblematic of the adventurous spirit of our undertaking! I’m beyond excited about this development, actually. Not only will her baby be the first Catz kitten ever born under my care, but Shiplap is the father and should pass on his stunning looks -- courtesy of queenie’s phantasm frosted tabby overwrite. This kitten will be gorgeous. We better pack extra formula! We’re still docked for now, but we think we’ll be shoving off soon. We’ll share more pictures with you when we do. 😊 |
P.S.: There is still one mau-trait velveteen looking for a home in zan's post! Maybe they'd love to meet you...?
