This is Samson, my first ever pig! You can blame Bird and Sappire for me having a pig. I was reading their threads about pigs, learned that they eat strange things and have other interesting behaviors that dogs don't, and I just had to see for myself! So I hexed myself Samson here. Isn't he cute?

I know there are a lot of pictures of him up there, I couldn't help it, he takes such funny pictures and makes such funny expressions all the time. I'd say he was a ham for the camera but that would be a little insensitive, LOL

I based his markings off of saddleback pigs, and gave him some extra spots and a face stripe for cuteness. I made his hooves pale pink and gave him chocolate brown eyes. I'm quite happy with the way he turned out.

Samson at first seemed to be a very skittish piggy, he looked worried at every new thing he saw and ran around kinda panicked looking quite often. But after a little while he seemed to settle down and get used to things. Now he likes to play. He likes to run after the frisbee when I throw it but he doesn't jump up and try to catch it like a dog would.

I've seen him dig at the ground, but not actually dig a hole, and he pushes his nose at the ground. Is this the truffle hunting behavior I have heard about? He sniffs around on the ground quite a lot, more than dogz do. He likes to prance a round a lot, that thing where they stick their legs out and don't bend their knees. I think that's so cute!

I've been introducing him to lots of different things to see if he might eat something, but so far all he has eaten is an Eater egg. And I don't know, are those supposed to be edible in P5?

I hexed Samson in P4, but then moved him over to P5, because that's what I usually use (I know, I'm weird) and I wanted to see if all the pig behaviors were in P5.

Oh wait, I think he might have eaten a tennis ball! I'm not sure, because I didn't see him eat it, he was behind the supply case. But I think I heard an eating noise, and I am sure I had a tennis ball out, and now I can't find it. I wish I would have seen it to know for sure.

Well I decided I shouldn't starve the poor guy waiting for him to eat weird things, so I took him to the desktop, which is where I feed all my petz cuz the food bowls don't jump around, and offered him a variety of food to see what he would like. He certainly eats like a pig! He ate most of the food from the greed cat food bowl, then ate most of the plate of leftovers, then ate all the food from the silver dog food bowl. Finally he was stuffed and laid down to rest after all that eating! LOL Then after a short break he went to eat some more! Even after his fullness was at 100. Finally I took him away from the food and back to the back yard, cuz he was starting to get fat. Time to play and run off that extra weight.

Ah-ha! I saw him eat a sunflower seed, this confirms that pigz do still eat non-food items in P5, hehehe!

And later on, I saw him eat a tennis ball, I saw it happen this time. He sure likes tennis balls!

When I took him to the desktop to eat again, it was weird, he ate for a bit then suddenly something seemed to scare him, he'd run around the screen squealing then hind behind the supply case. He did that several times. It seemed to be the empty silver dog bowl that was scaring him? I'm not sure. But it was weird, so we left the desktop for a less frightening place.

He seemed frightened in the back yard for a while too, but then he settled down and started rooting around, ya know, as you do, if your a pig.

I wanted to see if he'd do tricks for treats, and he does! But then I noticed he was really getting too heavy so I put a hold on the trick training for now and tried to get him some exercise. I found out he does jump for the frisbee and try to catch it. But he's a clumsy piglet and he hasn't caught it yet, but he likes to try.

He seems to loose weight very very slowly, even after lots of running around he is still over weight.

But I do love my little piggy, he is very cute and I like all the funny noises he makes. He has earned his place in my eclectic crew.

Tomorrow I will introduce him to other petz and see how he interacts with others.

What an extremely cute piggy! And I'm glad you mentioned you're in petz 5 because I forgot to say I'm in petz 4 (I kept taking out 9 things and if I was uncertain if they are something I'd just do the collect in supply case thing, but that's impossible in petz 5!)

My pig, Penny, was doing the Oshie shake walk and was scared of everything! I should def play around more with her and see why she's so skittish. She also runs in terror and squeals </3 poor thing

I think pigz can do all the things dogz can do plus things that pigz can do.



Also, at Duke's Group I feel like playing P5 is not weird at all-- a lot of P5 players are around here. But also in the community in general I meet a lot of new people who play P5-- the fact people have to apologize for using P5 makes me kind of upset at how the Petz Community has treated ya'll /rant

Sorry for the delay in updates and replies, something came up and I haven't had a chance to play Petz in a couple of days.

Yeah I assumed you were using Petz 4, bird, and I was curious if all the pig behaviors were still present in Petz 5. I'm happy to report that it seems like they are all there.

Aww, poor Penny! I didn't know pigs could do the Oshie shake walk, I haven't seen Samson do that, but he is quite skittish at times. I wonder what it is that is making them so scared? I haven't figured it out yet.

Thanks Thor, I don't feel like I've been treated too bad for using Petz 5, just sometimes I get a feeling that some people may look down on me or view me as a noob for using it, but that's not based on anything that has been said to me, just kind of a paranoia/insecurity thing on my part. I understand why a lot of people don't like P5, there are a lot of things I don't like about it. Initially I started using it when it first came out and didn't know about the bugs and things. Then I was stuck with it because I didn't have backup versions of my petz in 3/4. So for years I used it for that reason. Now I have the option to move my petz to P4 if I want, thanks to PetFlux, but I'm so used to P5 that I decided not to. There are things I like about P5, like the day/night cycle, and the ability to skin the supply case, and having more than one baby at a time is fun. But there are things I miss about P3/4, like the playpen, I don't know why they took that away, and I don't like my moms and babies being stuck in the nursery, and I miss being able to take picked flowers to other places, and lots of little things like that. But I digress. Point is I really have a hard time deciding which game I like better, and I understand deciding to use either game, it's just personal choice. Both games have their pros and cons. /off topic ramble.

But I'm glad there are more people playing P5 here, makes me feel less like a weirdo.

But anyway, now for the promised updates on Samson's attempts to make friends.

 

At first I brought him out with Zachariah, and at first they didn't pay much attention to each other. But after a little bit they started play wrestling quite a bit, then after that they seemed to become good friends.

Samson of course ate another tennis ball. Why does he like tennis balls so much? Of all the things I set out for him to eat, he seems to mostly eat tennis balls. I wonder if pigs can have a preference for favorite non-food items that they like to eat? That would be an interesting thing to try to test.

Anyway, after a good play with Zach, I brought out Wish to see how she would get along with Samson. At first Samson wanted to play with Wish, but she quickly started growling and barking at him, which sent him squealing and running around in a panic. Poor Samson. My usually sweet Wish just does not like my pig.

 

Next I tried Decadence, my new kitty. (Who will be introduced with his own thread very soon.) I expected it not to go well because Decadence is an alley and pigs are dog-based, but I was surprised. Decadence kept pouncing on Samson and wrestling with him quite a bit, and Samson didn't seem to mind this at all. Although they didn't interact much more than that, there was no hissing or “barking” so they don't hate each other.

When I put Decadence away, Samson got very sad, so clearly he likes him.

That's my update for now.  Perhaps I should try Samson out with some more petz, and maybe even get another pig for him to play with, we shall see!

Oh, and one last thing, I was wondering, if anyone would be interested in their own saddleback pig with similar markings as Samson?  I thought I might make a litter of hexed pigs like Samson if there is enough interest in them.

You don't have to apologize-- I don't always update for days or weeks and then sometimes I'm inspired and do an update (I did an update on PKC and the last time I posted in my thread was in Oct 2019 whoops).


Maybe Samson's favorite "food" is the Tennis ball ;) put some other treats and test ahahaha

I know it's not a big deal, but I often intend to do updates much sooner than I actually do them.  XD  But ya know, RL gets in the way, and sometimes the motivation is just not there.  You know how those things go.

LOL I'm totally going to do that!  Yes, I'm gonna write that his favorite food is tennis balls in his profile, hehe!  And I'm gonna do some more testing to see if he really chooses tennis balls more often than other non-food items.

And also, okay it's official now!  I'm going to hex a litter of Samson-like piggies!  I'm glad you guys like how I hexed him enough to want one of your own, thank you very much!  So keep an eye out, and I'll let you know when I have them up.

OMG He's cute! I love the markings you gave him. The pale pink hooves are like a cherry on top of the sundae. Shame there's no PKC for pigz, he's photogenic enough for it IMO.

Sounds like he's slightly on the skittish end of the personality spectrum! I've taken a peak at my pigz' behavioral/personality modifiers, and noticed that my own pigz have Confidence values ranging anywhere from 4 to 50-ish to 99... the ones with the lowest values are all oshie-shiverers, in addition to being generally kind of nervous. Though you said Samson doesn't oshie-shiver, so I guess he's a little more confident than some pigz out there...

(Also, fyi, Easter Eggs are edible - I've fed them to normal petz in both 4 and 5. They're basically like treats, except you can't train for tricks with em. It's a bit odd though, since if you drop them from a high position, they appear to be hollow when they shatter... not even any yolk or substitute carob "chocolate" in there???)

It's really cute that Samson and Decadence became friends! (Or, at the very least, that Samson seems to have a soft spot for Decadence.) Inter-species friendships in petz are adorable. Him becoming friends with Zacchariah is sweet, too. Shame Wish doesn't like him, though.

OMG, it'd be really funny if pigz really do have preferences for what non-foods they're most likely to eat... I wonder if it has anything to do with the flavor or color of the toy?

Also, just out of curiosity, what page do you think you'd put him under on your crew site? "Oddities," maybe?

Thank you so much creampanda ! I'm glad you like Samson so much! ^_^ I'm glad you like the detail of the pale pink hooves. I like making little details like that. Wow, you think he's that good? Thank you! I wish there was a PKC-like place for other species too. There used to be something called LSAPC that was like that, it was a showing club for a variety of realistic small animals that are kept as pets and farm animals too. As far as I know it's not around anymore, which is a shame, I didn't get a chance to show much in it, but I enjoyed it.

But anyway, yeah Samson is on the skittish side. Although I haven't seen him oshie-shiver, he seems to get into "nervous moods" where he squeals and runs around, while at other times he is more calmer. And yes Samson and Decadence are very cute together. I do love inter-species friendships, they are really sweet. And him and Zachariah are cute too. It is too bad that Wish doesn't get along with him, but, can't have everyone get along. XD

Yep, you are right, Samson will go on the Oddities page, once I get around to updating my crew. That's where I put all petz who don't fit in any other category, so he'll go there. Unless at some point I end up getting enough pigz for them to have their own page, ya never know.
