Hey everyone! I wanted to let you all know that even though I haven't been around much the past few months, I'm still here, RL just gets in the way sometimes. But I am still very much hooked on Petz and planning to stay that way. And on that note, there are two dogz I've been meaning to show off, so here they are!
Warning! Walls of text and image-heavy post to follow! XD
I want to introduce two very special petz to you. Meet Sandman and Harley Quinn! These are two petz that I naturally raised together before I knew doing that was such a big thing now in the PC. And I brexed them myself, before I even knew there was such a word as brexed. Back in the day we just called it pet file editing, and it wasn't all that common. But I liked making my special hexies have parents, just cuz I thought it was fun. XD
First let me introduce Sandman, since he was born first.
Show Name: Black Mist's Enter Sandman.
Sandman's pedigree:
Sandman's mother, Rain, is a selectively bred natural solid black Great Dane who is a PKC champion from back in the day, even though her eyes are faulted because they are green and she's an OB and realistic hexed versions are more popular and Great Dane competition is steep since they are so popular (at least it was like this at the time I showed her, I don't know what it's like these days as I haven't had time to re-join the PKC yet). Even with all that she champed, she's just that good at posing! Sandman's father, Crow, a Great Dane mix, was working on his companion title at the time I was in the PKC, he wasn't finished showing yet but he is a really great poser. I hoped they would pass on their great skills in the show ring down to their son. We shall see how he does, he's just gotten started in his show career.
A long time ago I had the idea to hex a Dane that was black but had white toes and a uniquely shaped chest patch. Not a complex hex by any means, but one I wanted to do because I like the way real Great Danes like that look. And I wanted to name him after my favorite Metallica song that I was obsessed with at the time. I didn't get to actually create Sandman till many years later, since I got out of petz for quite a while, but I always intended to come back, I just didn't intend for it to take so long. But anyway, I wanted this hexed dog to be bred from my own Great Dane show dogz, so that's what I did.
Despite being named after a creepy song, Sandman is a real sweetheart. He's very goofy, as is typical of Great Danes. And he loves attention so much. In fact, if I don't pay attention to him enough, even for a moment, he will start howling in protest to get my attention again. He howls for attention much more than any other dog I've had.
Now let's get to know Harley Quinn.
Show Name: Black Mist's We're Bad Guys, It's What We Do.
Harley's Pedigree:
Harley's mother is Canvas, one of my oldest Great Danes that I hexed myself. She is a harlequin Great Dane that I hexed in honor of a real Great Dane that once belonged to a family member, the dog that made me fall in love with harlequin Great Danes and Danes in general. They are such amazing dogs in real life, they really are. I have known two of them in my life and they were both such amazingly huge and friendly doggos. Anyway, Canvas couldn't be A registered in the PKC but she was working on her companion title and doing very well. Harley's father is a mantle Great Dane named Obsidian who is just a few points away from his PKC champion title.
Harley says: "This is my ball! You can't have it!"
I am hoping that Harley can do well in shows like her parents. She has just gotten started as well. She has a lot of energy and likes to bounce around more than pose, so far. She is as rebellious as her name sake. But she has just started her training so hopefully she will settle down with age.
A few years ago I saw the movie Suicide Squad. (It was actually the first movie me and my boyfriend went to see together, so it always makes me think of him. <3 ) After the movie I instantly had the idea to hex a harlequin Great Dane and name her Harley Quinn. Even though I hadn't played Petz in a long time I still thought about it. It's not a game you forget, and once you've been in the PC, it stays with you. Just a few years later I got to actually create Harley Quinn the Great Dane as I worked on my website getting ready to make a come back to the PC.
Harley took a while to hex, I didn't want to just slap some black spots on a white Dane, I wanted a very specific look and feel to her. Something reminiscent of the harlequin pattern for which the color of Great Danes is named for, but not so obvious that it looked fake. I wanted her to be very realistic looking. And I knew I wanted her to have heterochromia, the technical term for odd-eyes, two different colored eyes. I'm kinda obsessed with that and I love having petz with that trait. And luckily, although it is rare IRL, it is actually a bit more common in some breeds and colors of dogs, including my beloved harlequin Great Dane. So that makes my Harley Quinn realistic.
Harley has 113 individually hand placed spots, made entirely in LNZ Pro, which may not sound that impressive but it is for me. Hehe, spots have always been a challenge for me. Even though I am a competent hexer, I think, placing spots in a very specific position to make a specific marking has always been the hardest part of hexing for me. I find add balls much easier to do. Not to mention my hexing skills were very rusty at the time I hexed her, considering it had been many years since I hexed anything except Sandman.
I wanted Harley to be bred from my own Great Dane show dogz just like Sandman, so that makes them brexed. I really wanted to show them in the PKC, but since they are brexed they can not be shown there. I don't know if they would be realistic enough for the PKC anyway, even though I tried my best to make them realistic, the PKC has very strict standards. I'm kinda bummed about them not being able to be shown there.
But showing them in regular PC pose shows will be just as fun so I'm very happy to start doing that! I do really hope they do well. My posing skills are very very rusty though, and I've never been that great at posing dogz to begin with, I'm usually better with catz. But I'm going to give it a go anyway.

So here are the first two show dogz of my comeback, Sandman and Harley Quinn! I always intended Harley to be Sandman's mate, and after she was born I decided to let her grow up naturally alongside Sandman, even though he was a bit older than she was. I was very pleased to see that they got along well together. As they grew they quickly became very close friends. Now they are the best of friends and are inseparable. They are always play bowing and playfully nipping at each other, playing tug-o-war and tossing toys back and forth. They always want to be together and always get along.
The funny this is, even though they get along famously, they have been strictly friend-zoned thus far. No signs of romance between them. But that's just fine with me for the time being. I want them both to at least get their champion titles before I breed them for the first time. In fact, since they might decide to fall in love at any moment, I should give them some “birth control” so there are no puppies until we are ready for them. (i.e. spay and neuter them temporarily)
Now get ready for a picture overload!
Harley Quinn Puppy Pictures!
Sandman Puppy Pictures
I don't have any pictures of Sandman with his parents. I probably took some, but they were lost in the shuffle from one computer to the other.
But here are some pictures of his parents anyway. His mother, Rain, on top, and his father, Crow, on the bottom.
Harley, are you trying to fly?
Um.... Sandman...?
Harley wants to play!
Laying on some comfy pillows.
They are looking at each other, looks like they are starting to like each other.
Now they are looking cute.
Okay guys, cut it out! Even the best of friends have little spats.
Playing tug-o-war!
Oh no, they got into the catnip! You might think that the older of the two, Sandman, was the instigator. But no, I think it was Harley, the younger one, who was the bad influence on Sandman! She is quite the trouble maker.
Relaxing after a hard day of playing. XD
OMG what??
Sandman is so goofy.
Are you sure you guys are "just friends?"
Harley: "Did you get these pretty flowers for me?"
Sandman: "Um...." *awkward silence*
Meer: "Say yes silly boy!"
Will these two ever get it together?
They love to play dress up! Harley likes wild punk looks, Sandman prefers a more subtle approach while still looking goth.
If you read and looked at all that I'm impressed. But stay tuned for more antics and the show careers of Harley Quinn and Sandman!
